No Strings Nutrition is a 100% cash-pay, out-of-network nutrition therapy practice.

I can provide you with a monthly “superbill” upon request, which can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. A superbill is a receipt for your nutrition counseling sessions, which you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement depending on your individual plan. You are still required to pay for sessions at the time of service. Reimbursement from your insurance company varies and sometimes can take several months.

Below are some questions to ask your insurance company to see if you have out-of-network benefits for nutrition counseling!

Call the member services or customer support number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  1. Does my plan cover out-of-network benefits for outpatient nutrition counseling (CPT Codes: 97802 and 97803)?

    1. If yes, how many sessions are allowed per plan year?

    2. Do I have preventative benefits for nutrition counseling?

  2. Does my plan cover diagnosis code Z71.3 with CPT code 97802? If yes, how many sessions are allowed per plan year?

  3. Does my plan only cover medical nutrition therapy (MNT) visits that are considered “medically necessary”?

  4. Do I have a deductible to meet first?

    1. If yes, how much is my deductible?

  5. Is telehealth covered for nutrition counseling?

  6. Do I need a physician referral?

  7. What is my co-pay or co-insurance amount for outpatient nutrition counseling?

  8. How do I submit superbills for reimbursement? How long does it take to receive the check or direct deposit?

It is best practice to write down the representative’s name and a reference # when checking your benefits for your records. You never know when you may have to reference it again!
